I like to do this while street preaching. I like to engage one person in conversation and let the others standing around / passing by listen to the conversation.

I looked up from the Bible and about 15 feet away stood a young man propping himself up on a crutch. He was dressed in a demonic garb and his friends stood in a line by him. I said, " Can I pray for you? " He replied, " Don't you dare touch me! " I started to talk again and he interrupted me. So I said, " How about giving me 2 minutes to speak and then you can have your 2 minutes! " So I started my speech. " What did Jesus do 2000 years ago? He saved sinners, healed the sick, delivered people possessed by demons, plus did a variety of other miracles. Furthermore, the Bible says, ' Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. ' Therefore, He does the same today ..."

Then the young man started his speech. He said something which I didn't quite hear so I said, " What did you say? " So he repeated his off-colour statement a little louder and at that precise moment two policemen came around the corner and immediately cautioned him.

He protested his case to the police, " He had his 2 minutes I want mine! " The more he protested the more the police cautioned him. After he had cooled down the police walked away and never said a word to me ... standing behind a portable pulpit with a microphone in my hand connected to a 6/10 W PA system.

By this time a small crowd had assembled to watch the drama. Our conversation continued. I said, " What's your name?" He replied, " I don't think I should tell you that! " I said, " My name is Michael!" He replied, " Mine is Woody ! "

I first met Woody in January, 2000. More recently I saw him again plus 3 of his friends on ' the street witness.' He told me he is a student studying mass media and English. On the second occasion we had a friendly chat about the gifts of the Holy Spirit ( in 1 Corinthians 12 ).

Nicodemus

Jesus was a master of this tactic, e.g. see John 3:1f with Nicodemus.

1 ¶ There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. {again: or, from above}

4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. {again: or, from above}

8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?

10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?

This conversation and similar discussions with the Master are been read about, preached on, expounded upon, etc 2000 years later!

Therefore, a conversation with one, may become a message for many!
