And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.      -- Acts 16: 25, 26

Getting Out A Jam

From March 1990 for 4 1/2 years, I lived in many places and was of no fixed abode. Nights were spent in various places including friends apartments / houses, caravan, tent, B & B, vehicles, rough, and some interesting places e.g. a mountain bike shop. Also because I no longer owned a car, I had to walk, sometimes long distances. During this period of no fixed abode I had the following experience which may be of interest since it is based on application of the above scriptural blueprint for getting out of a jam!

Hondarribia (1991 April 11 )

I was walking from Fuenterrabia to Hondarribia in Northern Spain and as it was getting dark I " camped " near the top of a hill ... about 100 yd. from the road in the midst of trees, rocks and grass. I didn't have a tent and during the night I woke up and realised I was getting wet because of a weather change; it had started to drizzle / rain. I put my sleeping bag in my rucksack and took out my umbrella. Because of the dense fog I had to stay in the same place ... I could not even see my shoes.

I started to pray and sing choruses.

One of the choruses I was singing was LORD, THE LIGHT OF YOUR LOVE is shining. The words of the chorus are:-

Shine, Jesus, shine,

Fill this land with the Father’s glory;

Blaze, Spirit, blaze,

Set our hearts on fire.

Flow, river, flow,

Flood the nations with grace and mercy;

Send forth Your word,

Lord, and let there be light.

... and there was light!

Suddenly the area where I stood was suddenly floodlit with lights!

When I made my way back to the road I realised what had happened. The fog at that altitude where I was singing / praying had lifted and powerful lights situated on the very top of the hill penetrated the darkness/fog where I stood so that I could make my way back onto the road.

As I walked to the peak point on the road I noticed the name of the hill - Jaizkibel. As I walked towards Hondarribia the road descended and at a certain point I re - entered the fog at a lower altitude but it wasn't as dense as that previously experienced near the top of the hill.

Consider the following scriptures:-

Mat 9:9 And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.

Mat 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Luke 9: 57, 58 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

When you work for Jesus all He says is, " follow Me". He doesn't say in advance where, or how much He will pay us and He doesn't say where we will sleep at night!
